The one thing you must possess
Bring it along and success becomes inevitable
With so many possibilities and paths to pursue, it does turn out a hard task choosing skills you want to develop to sharpen your career, to sew a healthy and reliable connections with friends, whose perspectives can open you to a lot of new ideas, and to live the way you want based on everything you chose to get involved with. These crossroads that our minds face now and then are essential to your development. Yet, how should you decide which direction to allow yourself to go without leaving space for regrets?
Everyday we’re making decisions over what we’re going to eat, which e-mails you’re going to open, when you’ll make exercises, how much time you’ll save to learn something new, and so on… They may look like simple and harmless choices that wouldn’t impact your life from a long-term perspective. You miss lunch today and make up for it with a sandwich, no big deal, nothing is going to change ten minutes after doing so, right? However, they do end up shaping your life in the years to come.
Your life is not linear, it’s a curve whose direction is guided by the sum of all the small choices you’ve done till this day. The illustration below shows how the curve of your life performs as the years go by. Right away, you can be aware that in the beginning and in the middle, the curve is very close to the origin (blue straight line). Does it mean that all those small choices were to no avail? Far from that, it’s true that they don’t show immediate results in the short-term, however, the curve is built upon each one of your choices.

If you disregard the significance of small choices and neglect the harm they can do to you, you should be worried because you might be in the lower curve, where later on bitterness and regrets awaits. However, if you try very hard to make the better choices for you, then congratulations, because you’re probably surfing on the upper curve of life.
After realizing how meaningful our everyday actions present themselves before us, you can now wonder how to make the best decisions of your life which will lead you to fulfillment and success.
The measurement is done by the heart, believe it or not. I know it seems subjective and definitely hard to understand. But your burning passion and desire is what’s going to guide your through life, since we don’t usually regret the decisions made based on our passion and devotion.
“There is one quality which one must possess to win, and that is definiteness of purpose, the knowledge of what one wants, and a burning desire to possess it.” — Napoleon Hill
